PDP Is a Carcass, Only Vultures Feast on It” – Gen. Ijioma Warns Peter Obi Against Return
Retired Major General Ijioma Nwokoro Ijioma has advised former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, to reject any attempt to lure him back to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), warning that such moves are a strategic trap aimed at derailing his political future.
Speaking during the July edition of the Ikengaonline Town Hall Meeting, Gen. Ijioma cautioned that the PDP, as currently structured, cannot be trusted to protect Obi’s interests, especially with the influence of figures like Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, whose loyalty to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is widely acknowledged. He described the PDP as a political carcass, suggesting that only those seeking to exploit its remnants would attempt to return to it.
The retired General, who spoke on the theme *Ndigbo and the 2027 Politics*, described the subtle calls for Obi to rejoin the PDP as a booby trap designed to box him in and sabotage his presidential ambition. He also expressed concern over Obi’s alignment with the coalition led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), advising him to withdraw from it if there is uncertainty about securing the coalition’s presidential ticket.
Gen. Ijioma declared that Peter Obi remains the presidential hopeful with the broadest national appeal and the best chance of victory in 2027, regardless of political platform. According to him, Nigeria’s frustrated masses—reeling from years of misgovernance under the APC—are ready to follow Obi to any party where he emerges as the flagbearer.
“If I’m Peter Obi’s adviser, I will never advise him to go back to the PDP. The PDP is a carcass, and only vultures feast on carcasses. Returning to PDP with Wike still there is risky. There’s no guarantee his interest won’t be undermined,” he said.
He continued, “Obi must be careful with this so-called coalition. If he’s not certain of being the presidential candidate, he should pull out and join any other party where he can secure the ticket. Wherever he goes, the masses will follow. He will win in 2027.”
Ijioma asserted that any party Obi joins will become the central rallying point for Nigerians disillusioned by a decade of APC rule. He praised Obi’s integrity and national acceptance, noting that the former Anambra State governor has become a symbol of hope for ordinary Nigerians, unlike many members of the political elite.
Echoing former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s call for an Igbo presidency, Ijioma reminded Nigerians that the country has yet to produce a president of Igbo origin, despite having elected leaders from other major ethnic groups. He urged Ndigbo, both at home and abroad, to stand firmly behind Peter Obi, insisting that he remains the best-qualified candidate for 2027.
“It’s only the political elite—especially Igbo political elites—who are opposing Peter Obi because of selfish interests,” he said. “But the Nigerian people are calling for Peter Obi. He has what it takes to lead Nigeria out of its current challenges.”
