PDP Crisis Deepens as Lamido Threatens Legal Action Over Chairmanship Form Denial

The crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took a new turn on Monday as former Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, threatened to take legal action against the party after he was allegedly prevented from purchasing the nomination form to contest for the position of National Chairman.

Lamido arrived at the PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza in Abuja, on Monday morning to obtain the form but was reportedly denied access by party officials. Speaking to journalists outside the secretariat, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs condemned the development as “unacceptable and undemocratic,” insisting that it violated the principles on which the PDP was founded.

“I came here to buy the form for the chairmanship position, but I was denied. This is not the democracy our party stands for,” Lamido said. “If this continues, I will have no choice but to approach the court for justice.”

The former governor had earlier announced his intention to vie for the top position in a post on his verified Facebook page, where he informed supporters of his plan to visit the party headquarters on Monday to obtain the form.

Lamido’s experience adds to growing tension within the PDP as the party prepares for its National Convention scheduled for November 15–16 in Ibadan, Oyo State, where new members of the National Working Committee are expected to be elected.
