Panic in Ojodu-Berger as Building Collapses, Traps Many Residents
A multi-storey building under construction on Oremeta Street in the Ojodu-Berger area of Lagos State collapsed early Saturday morning, trapping several people beneath the debris. The incident occurred at approximately 8:00 a.m. and has since drawn emergency response teams to the site.
The structure reportedly housed the popular EqualRight Restaurant on its ground floor. Witnesses say the sudden collapse took both occupants and passersby by surprise. One eyewitness described the building as a disaster waiting to happen, noting concerns over its structural integrity. “Anyone who knows that building should know it was a bomb waiting to explode,” the witness said. “I hardly go there to buy food because I was always scared the building would collapse while I’m there.”
Officials from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) are currently leading search and rescue operations. The number of individuals trapped under the rubble remains unknown at this time, but efforts are ongoing to locate and assist any survivors.
