LASEMA Rescues Lagos Man Who ‘Mistakenly’ Falls into Lagoon at Falomo Bridge
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) rescued Segun Amoo, a man who reportedly fell into the Lagos Lagoon at Falomo bridge area.
Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the head of LASEMA, disclosed that the agency received a distress call through the Lagos State Toll-Free Emergency numbers 767 and 112 at 7:43 a.m. concerning the incident.
Upon receiving the call, LASEMA immediately activated the state’s Emergency Response Plans, dispatching the LASEMA Response Team from the Lekki zone to the scene. They arrived at 8:02 a.m. to find Amoo already resuscitated and identifying himself.
Amoo recounted how he unintentionally fell into the Lagos lagoon at the location mentioned, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Further investigations by LASEMA revealed that officials from the Lagos State Water Authority (LASWA) at their Falomo office had witnessed Amoo struggling in the lagoon waters around 11:00 p.m. the previous night. LASWA’s Rescue Team promptly responded to the situation, rescuing Amoo and stabilizing him with Pre-Hospital Care Paramedics.
Amoo, upon regaining consciousness, provided crucial information about himself, confirming his address in Ilaje-Bariga, Lagos, and emphasizing that he was not suicidal, clarifying the nature of the incident.
Following the rescue, the LASEMA Response Team proceeded to Amoo’s address for further inquiries, successfully reuniting him with his relatives.
Expressing gratitude, Amoo’s brother, Mr. Atteji Benuwa, conveyed the family’s appreciation to the emergency responders for their swift action in rescuing Amoo.
The successful rescue operation highlights the effectiveness of Lagos State’s emergency response mechanisms in ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents.
