Ambulance Driver Dies in Early Morning Crash with Truck on Oworonshoki Expressway

A tragic accident claimed the life of an ambulance driver early Sunday morning when his vehicle collided with a truck near TREM Church, heading toward Gbagada along the Oworonshoki Expressway in Lagos. The incident occurred at around 1:30 a.m., involving an ambulance with registration number JBD-405HA and an unidentified articulated truck.

Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), confirmed the fatal collision, noting that preliminary investigations suggest the ambulance crashed into the side of the truck while both vehicles were in motion.

According to eyewitnesses, the truck made an abrupt lane change, which led to the high-speed ambulance ramming underneath it. Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu explained, “The sudden lane change reportedly led to a crash when the approaching ambulance, traveling at high speed, rammed under the truck, resulting in the death of the ambulance driver. The driver was tragically trapped inside the vehicle upon impact and succumbed to his injuries.”

LASEMA teams, along with other emergency responders, quickly arrived on the scene, clearing the wreckage to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and prevent further incidents. The deceased driver’s body was retrieved and turned over to members of the Ambulance Association for transport to the morgue. Meanwhile, both vehicles involved in the crash were handed over to the Nigerian Police Force for further investigation.

The Lagos emergency services continue to urge drivers to exercise caution, especially during late-night hours, to help prevent such tragic incidents.
