JUST IN: Popular Nigerian Gospel Artiste Dies at 50
Gospel singer, radio personality, and ordained pastor Bolaji Adedotun Olanrewaju, widely known as Big Bolaji, has died at the age of 50. His death occurred on Saturday, April 19, 2025, following a brief illness.
Big Bolaji, who celebrated his 50th birthday in November 2024, was a beloved figure in Nigeria’s gospel music scene and a respected voice in Christian ministry. His passing was confirmed by his family in an official statement expressing deep sorrow over the loss of a cherished father, husband, brother, and community leader. The statement described him as a “giant in the music industry,” an ordained pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), and a man whose life radiated faith, music, and compassion.
Born in Osun State and raised in Ibadan, Bolaji was a certified estate surveyor by profession. He was converted and nurtured in the Christian faith under the mentorship of Bishop Francis Wale Oke at The Sword of the Spirit Ministries. Over the years, he became known for his annual gospel concert, “Turn It Up With Big Bolaji,” held in Ibadan, which drew large crowds and inspired many. He also served on the board of directors for the Living Spring Music Festival.
The family noted that funeral details will be shared at a later time and asked for privacy during this period of mourning. Bolaji’s legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the music he created, and the joy he spread throughout his ministry and community.
