Obi Labels Circulating Photos With Trump, MC Oluomo as Fake

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, has dismissed viral images circulating on social media that suggest he recently met with former United States President Donald Trump and Lagos transport union leader, Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo.

In a statement shared on his official X account on Wednesday, Obi described the images and accompanying claims as “fake, doctored, and entirely false.” He explained that one photo falsely portrayed him with Trump, alongside a fabricated claim of endorsement, while another attempted to depict him in a meeting with MC Oluomo. Obi stated categorically that neither encounter ever took place.

He warned that such fabrications are examples of the persistent dangers of fake news and disinformation in Nigeria, stressing that they are deliberately crafted to mislead and distract the public. He urged Nigerians and the international community to verify information before sharing and to resist propaganda that undermines truth and integrity.

Obi further clarified that if he had indeed met with Trump or MC Oluomo, he would have personally shared details on his official platforms. He emphasized that his politics has never been about cheap publicity or external validation, but about addressing Nigeria’s real challenges through integrity, accountability, and transparency.

Reaffirming his political philosophy, the former Anambra State governor noted that his focus remains on tackling insecurity, strengthening the rule of law, revamping education and healthcare, and pulling millions of Nigerians out of poverty.
