Northern Group Threatens to Halt Food Supply to Southern Nigeria

The Northern Consensus Movement of Nigeria has declared its intention to disrupt the food supply chain from the North to the southern regions of the country. This decision comes in response to a recent ultimatum issued by Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, a Yoruba nation agitator, demanding that the Fulani community vacate Yorubaland within ten days.

The group, led by its President, Awwal Aliyu, issued this warning during a press conference on Thursday, a video of which has since gone viral. Aliyu emphasized that they would take all necessary measures to obstruct Igboho’s ultimatum, even suggesting the possibility of urging Yorubas residing in the northern part of the country to return to their region if the threat persists.

Aliyu articulated their grievances, demanding compensation for victims of various incidents, including the ENDSARS killings, the Shasha-Akinyele market crisis, and the violence associated with the IPOB/ESN. They expressed their frustration at previous leaders’ inaction regarding these demands and declared a four-week ultimatum for these issues to be addressed.

If their demands are not met within the stipulated timeframe, the group threatened to launch a nationwide protest and disrupt food supplies from the North to the southern regions of the country, which could have significant consequences for the nation’s food security.

The Northern Consensus Movement of Nigeria has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to address their grievances and implored the Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, to intervene in calling Sunday Igboho to order. This situation raises concerns about the potential for further unrest and disruptions to the country’s already fragile food distribution network.
