Nigerians Privately Urging Us to Rescue the Country — PDP

As the 2027 general elections draw near, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared its readiness to reclaim leadership, citing growing public dissatisfaction with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and increasing private appeals from Nigerians for the party to return and “rescue the country.”

Speaking at a press conference on Monday in Abuja, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, said Nigerians across different sectors have been reaching out privately, encouraging the party to step up and provide an alternative to what he described as the APC’s failed leadership.

“People privately call me, urging us to unite and rescue the country,” Ologunagba said, stressing that the PDP remains the only nationally rooted and structurally viable party with the capacity to restore Nigeria’s trajectory.

He said the party has already begun internal reforms and strategic planning to position itself for success in the 2027 polls. According to him, the PDP’s legacy of governance still resonates with citizens across the country. “We are organic and nationally rooted. There is no community in Nigeria without a PDP presence,” he stated. “During our time in government, we positively impacted lives, reaching even the remotest parts of the country.”

Ologunagba did not mince words when criticizing the ruling APC, describing it as a political experiment that has failed Nigerians. “APC is a bad market. No matter who they present in 2027, Nigerians are wiser now. They know better,” he said.

In response to recent defections from the PDP, particularly in Osun State where two senators left the party, Ologunagba dismissed fears of internal weakness. He emphasized that the strength of the PDP lies in its grassroots support. “While leaders are important, followers define a party. Our grassroots supporters are not leaving,” he affirmed.

He also confirmed that preparations are ongoing for the PDP’s 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, which will take place from July 23 to 25. The meeting is expected to review reports from the zoning and convention committees and ratify congresses held across the country.

Ologunagba concluded by expressing confidence in the PDP’s growing public support. “Nigerians are yearning for a party that can rebuild the nation, and they know the PDP is ready,” he said.
