Why Atiku Hasn’t Officially Joined ADC Yet
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is yet to formally finalise his move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), despite resigning from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) last week. According to a close source familiar with the matter, the delay is intentional and linked to Atiku’s personal travel schedule and his desire to handle the process himself.
The source, who spoke confidentially in Abuja, said Atiku wants to carry out the registration in person to underscore the significance of the switch. “He returned to Nigeria for the burial of the late President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, coming straight from a business trip abroad. From Daura, he travelled back overseas for a planned two-week break,” the source revealed.
They stressed that for a political figure of Atiku’s stature, completing the party registration personally is important. “People need to physically see him picking up his membership card and completing the formalities. Once he returns from his break, that’s one of the first major things he is expected to do,” the source added.
The move, while pending, is considered highly symbolic and strategic as it is expected to influence alliances and shape public perception ahead of the 2027 general elections. The source hinted that Atiku’s formal entry into the ADC would be carefully timed for maximum political and media impact, even though no official date has been set yet.
