Navy Petty Officer Dismissed for Stealing Empty Gallons, Veils, Wrappers in Lokoja
In a recent development, Nigerian Navy Petty Officer M. Nasiru has been dismissed for theft, in accordance with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the Armed Forces Act (Rules of Procedure) 1972, and other extant laws.
According to a military signal obtained by Sahara Reporters, Nasiru was found guilty of stealing various items from the home of a retired Naval rating who had generously accommodated him and his family in Lokoja, Kogi State. The stolen items included 30 pieces of wrappers, 3 veils, a Maxi generator, and 40 empty 25-liter gallons, with a total estimated value of ₦600,000.
The theft occurred in the home of Mrs. Jumai Idris, a retired naval officer currently employed in Abuja. Upon her return, Mrs. Idris discovered the missing items and attempted to contact Nasiru, who had already vacated the premises. Unable to reach him, she reported the incident to the naval authorities, leading to an investigation and Nasiru’s subsequent dismissal.
This incident follows closely on the heels of another dismissal in the armed forces. Lance Corporal Jonah Comfort was recently dismissed for allegedly stealing gold jewelry valued at ₦35 million from the wife of an army general.
