Two Alleged IPOB-Linked IED Specialists Killed During Naval Operation in Imo
The Nigerian Navy says its personnel have killed two individuals identified as improvised explosive device (IED) specialists linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network, during a clearance operation in Imo State.
According to a statement shared Sunday evening by naval spokesperson Abiodun Folorunsho, the operation was conducted by the Naval Base Oguta Tactical Patrol Squadron in Orsu Local Government Area as part of a coordinated effort with other security agencies.
The Navy said troops targeted suspected hideouts along the Orsu–Ihiteukwa axis, including the Mother Valley area, where they encountered multiple explosive devices.
“During the operation, troops encountered multiple Improvised Explosive Devices, confirming the presence of an active IED network,” the statement said.
Following the encounter, the Navy reported that personnel traced and dismantled what it described as an IED fabrication site. It added that two suspects were neutralised during a coordinated ambush at the location.
The statement further noted that all recovered explosive materials were destroyed on site to prevent risks to residents and operatives. No casualties were recorded among naval personnel.
The Navy, through the operation led by the Nigerian Navy unit based in Oguta, said the exercise is part of ongoing joint security actions aimed at disrupting armed networks and reducing violence in the region.
It reaffirmed continued reliance on intelligence-led operations in collaboration with other security agencies to maintain pressure on armed groups operating in the area.
