Gunmen Abduct Worshippers During Night Vigil on Lokoja Mountain
Gunmen attacked a group of worshippers holding a night vigil on a remote mountain in the Egbola area, along Agbaja Road in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State, abducting several individuals in the early hours of Friday. The exact number of those taken remains unknown.
According to local sources, the assailants stormed the prayer ground during the vigil, firing sporadically to create panic before forcibly taking some of the worshippers into the surrounding forest. In a swift response, members of the Kogi State vigilante service mobilized to the scene after receiving reports of the attack.
During the intervention, one of the victims, a woman identified as Mary Adams Gure, was rescued amid a gun battle between the vigilantes and the kidnappers. It was reported that she managed to escape in the chaos and was later brought to safety by the local security team.
Efforts to rescue the remaining abducted individuals are ongoing, with search-and-rescue operations continuing in the area. The state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP William Aya, has not yet responded to inquiries regarding the incident.
