Kano APC Leader Gawuna Resigns as FMBN Board Chairman, Prepares to Join ADC

Nasiru Gawuna, a senior figure in the All Progressives Congress in Kano State, has resigned as chairman of the Governing Board of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), effective March 27, 2026.

In his resignation letter, Gawuna said the decision was taken to comply with a directive requiring political appointees to step down in line with provisions of Nigeria’s Electoral Act ahead of upcoming political activities.

“I am resigning in strict compliance with the President’s directive,” he stated.

Gawuna, who was the APC governorship candidate in Kano State in the last election cycle, is expected to finalise his move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Tuesday. The move comes amid ongoing political realignments linked to former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso.

He also acknowledged the opportunity to serve under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing his tenure at the FMBN as a period of public service.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the development of the bank and the country,” Gawuna said.

The former board chairman added that he would ensure a smooth transition process, pledging to hand over responsibilities in line with established procedures. He also noted that he would take time to determine his next political steps.
