Nigerian Singer, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, popularly known as “Burna Boy”, has won the ‘Best Global Music Album’ category at the 2021 Grammy Awards for his album “Twice as Tall”.
You would recall that, Burna Boy’s “African Giant” album was also nominated in the ‘Best World Music Album’ category last year but he lost to Angelique Kidjo’s “Celia” Album.
Burna Boy’s loss to the Beninese-American singer, Angelique Kidjo last year informed his choice of “Twice as Tall” as the title of his next album.
He made this known in an interview, where he had explained that his first Grammy loss left him “totally sick”.
He said, he however got some encouragement from last year’s winner Angelique Kidjo, whom he called his “Musical Mother”.
Burna Boy said “she told me all I had to understand about the Grammys and this he said made him “Twice as Tall”.
In the same category for the Best Global Music Album Award were, ‘The Fu Chronicles’ by Antibala, ‘Agora’ from Bebel Gilberto, ‘Love Letters’ from Anoushka Shankar and ‘Amadjar’ from Tinariwen.
Nigeria’s Wizkid also won his first ever Grammy for his role in ‘Brown Skin Girl,’ a 2019 song by Beyonce, American singer.
You would also recall that, this year’s edition of the awards was scheduled for January had to be postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic.
