Mudryk: “I Was Offered Performance-Enhancing Drugs at Chelsea” – Mikel Obi

Former Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi has revealed that he was offered performance-enhancing drugs during his time at Chelsea. The disclosure came in the wake of Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk’s recent suspension following a failed drug test.

The Football Association provisionally suspended Mudryk earlier this week, sparking widespread discussion. In response, the Ukrainian international issued a statement asserting his innocence, stating he had “not done anything wrong.”

Addressing the situation on the Obi One podcast, Mikel Obi shared his perspective and reflected on his own experiences. While expressing hope for Mudryk’s innocence, Mikel emphasized the importance of personal accountability.

“For him (Mudryk) and his family, I hope he is innocent,” Mikel said. “I remember when we were playing, if someone was offering me something, I would ask what it was. I’m responsible for what I put in my body, what I eat, and stuff like that. People around will offer you things—friends, friends of friends—they will tell you that this will give you one or two more percent in your performances, and I’m like, ‘What is this? Is this legal?’”

He explained that he always rejected such offers, saying, “I tell them to go away; I don’t want to talk about it. We have to take responsibility for our actions and what we eat. But for now, Mudryk is innocent until proven guilty.”
