“They’ve cheated their way to winning the Premier League” — Mikel Obi hits out at Arsenal
Former Super Eagles midfielder John Obi Mikel has accused Arsenal F.C. of “cheating” in their push for the Premier League title.
Speaking on talkSPORT, the former Chelsea F.C. star criticised Arsenal’s effectiveness from set-pieces, arguing that the tactic gives them an unfair advantage.
“They’ve cheated their way to winning the Premier League,” Mikel said.
He added that he would not personally recognise Arsenal as champions if they win the title because of the way they secure victories.
“So I wouldn’t recognise them as winners, because for me it’s illegal the way they’re winning games,” he said.
Mikel also suggested the league authorities should address the issue if it continues.
“It’s illegal unless the Premier League right now from this weekend stamps that out. We don’t want to see that in the game,” he added.
Arsenal currently lead the Premier League table, seven points ahead of Manchester City F.C., although they have played one match more than the defending champions.
