Most ‘Obidients’ Are IPOB Members or Apologists, Claims Daniel Bwala

In a recent statement on Channels Television’s Morning Brief, Daniel Bwala, former spokesperson for the Atiku Abubakar/Ifeanyi Okowa presidential campaign, castigated Peter Obi and his supporters, known as Obidients, questioning their democratic credentials and alleging ties to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Bwala accused Peter Obi, a former Labour Party presidential candidate, of lacking any significant history or democratic record. He contended that Obi’s followers, whom he referred to as Obidients, predominantly consist of IPOB members and their sympathizers.

“I am not obsessed with Peter Obi,” Bwala asserted, countering claims of undue focus on Obi. “The issue lies in the conduct of these Obidients who aggressively push their agenda online, often resorting to bullying tactics against dissenters.”

The former campaign spokesperson highlighted a perceived lack of democratic values among Obidients, asserting, “They fail to uphold the principles essential to a free society, instead choosing to dominate social media platforms with vitriol.”

When pressed for evidence linking Obi’s supporters to IPOB, Bwala clarified that his assertion was based on opinion rather than empirical data. He also claimed that a significant portion of those engaging in online bullying during the 2023 electoral period were located outside Nigeria.

Bwala concluded by downplaying Peter Obi’s current political relevance, remarking, “Obi may hold sway on social media, but he’s far from being the President of Nigeria.”
