Edo: Obaseki Resigns from PDP, Cites Leadership Issues

Benjamin Obaseki, a prominent figure within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oredo Local Government, Edo State, has formally resigned from the party. Obaseki, who held a key position as an ex-official in the local government chapter and was a member of Ward 10, submitted his resignation letter dated June 12, 2024, to the local party chairman.

In his resignation letter, Obaseki expressed regret over his decision, citing a disconnect between the party leadership and its members as a primary reason for his departure. He lamented that the current leadership under Governor Godwin Obaseki had lost touch with grassroots concerns, leading to an environment where members’ grievances were not addressed.

“It has been incredible and a pleasure to be part of the one-time big political family we built together that fostered a lot of victories,” Obaseki wrote. “I sincerely regret this decision to resign from the party that I joined in building from scratch, but I am convinced it is time for me to leave for my growth.”

He further criticized the infighting within the party at the state level, warning that if not resolved, it could spell the end for PDP in Edo State. “It is a pity that the infighting that has engulfed the party at the state level will consume the party and I do not intend to be consumed alongside it,” Obaseki added.
