Missing UNIJOS Final-Year Student Found Dead in Jos

A final-year student of the University of Jos (UNIJOS), Adeyemo Oluwafemi Temitope, has been confirmed dead days after he was reported missing.

Temitope, a 500-level quantity surveying student, was discovered at the University Teaching Hospital in Jos, three days after he was allegedly attacked by unidentified assailants in the state capital.

The development was made public on Friday by his friend, Meshak Gimba, a 400-level psychology student, who had earlier taken to social media to report him missing. Gimba said he was contacted and asked to come to the hospital, where he identified Temitope’s body.

According to him, the student was initially presumed missing, prompting an online search effort. However, hospital officials later confirmed that the body had been deposited at the mortuary on Wednesday by security operatives.

Gimba added that information provided at the hospital indicated Temitope was attacked near Bauchi Junction while returning from the market.

University authorities have also confirmed the incident. The institution’s chief security officer, Agama Solomon, said management visited the hospital alongside the vice-chancellor and other officials to verify the identity of the deceased.

He noted that the body was positively identified by a close associate and that the university has contacted the student’s family, who are expected to arrive for further arrangements.

Efforts to reach the police spokesperson in Plateau State for comments were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.

The incident comes amid rising insecurity in Jos North Local Government Area, following a recent attack in Angwan Rukuba that left dozens dead and several injured.

In response to the deteriorating security situation, the university had earlier ordered students to vacate hostels and suspended ongoing examinations, citing safety concerns.
