Missing AAUA Students Found Dead in Bush
The bodies of two missing students from Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), have been discovered in a forest along the Ondo-Ekiti border, three weeks after they were first reported missing. The students, Andrel Okah from the Department of History and International Studies and John Abba from the Department of Economics, were declared missing by classmates after failing to attend classes for over two weeks.
The discovery has sent shockwaves through the university community, with the Students Union Government (SUG) describing the incident as deeply painful. SUG President Akeem Ologbon, in a statement released on Monday, said the news has plunged the entire campus into mourning. He confirmed that once the students’ disappearance was reported, the union immediately engaged relevant security agencies, including the anti-kidnapping and Scorpion squads in Akure, to aid in the search.
Ologbon stated that the union worked closely with these agencies to ensure the case received urgent attention, emphasizing that the newly appointed Commissioner of Police had been fully briefed and was actively involved. He urged students to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information, assuring that the union would continue to provide accurate updates as investigations unfold.
Despite the overwhelming grief, the SUG president called for unity and resilience among students, vowing that justice would be pursued without compromise. “No stone will be left unturned until the truth is uncovered and accountability is achieved,” he said.
While the official police statement is still pending, a source within the Ondo State police command confirmed that the students were likely killed by their abductors. Their remains were located on Sunday in a bush within the Akoko border community, and police teams have been dispatched to retrieve the bodies.
The university community and families of the victims now await further details and the outcome of police investigations, as calls grow louder for justice and improved campus safety.
