Footballer Hacked to Death in Lagos During Morning Training
A young footballer known simply as Kamo was brutally hacked to death by unidentified assailants suspected to be cultists on Thursday, July 10, during a routine morning training session in the Ebute Metta area of Lagos State.
The tragic incident occurred shortly after Kamo, a goalkeeper for grassroots team B-Unit Football Club, completed his drills at a popular local pitch known as Centre Field. According to eyewitnesses, the athlete was ambushed by a group of men wielding machetes just a few metres from the field as he made his way home alone.
A resident, speaking on condition of anonymity due to security concerns, described the horrifying scene, saying the attackers inflicted deep cuts to Kamo’s head, leaving him fatally wounded. “Before help could arrive, he was already dead,” the source said.
Kamo was a regular face at the field and was known for his dedication to football. The gruesome nature of the attack has led many in the community to suspect it may be connected to cult-related violence, a recurring issue in the area.
Another resident, Kazeem, described Kamo as a peace-loving young man focused on his football and side hustle. While he acknowledged speculation about cult involvement, he expressed uncertainty, stating, “Some people said it was a rival gang, but I’m not so sure. He wasn’t known for trouble.”
In the wake of the killing, members of the community have called on local authorities and the police to intensify security surveillance to prevent further violence.
