Man Allegedly Steals Lover’s Motorcycle, Gas Cylinder, Other Valuables; Police Recover Them

The Benue State Police Command has recovered a motorcycle reportedly stolen from a female student by her alleged romantic partner.

The victim, a student of the College of Education, Katsina-Ala, said the suspect, identified as Aondoaseer Hyacinth Iortyom, deceived her under the pretense of a relationship and took her motorcycle, gas cylinder, perfume, and cash.

She explained that Aondoaseer initially approached her at Ugbema Junction while she was traveling for the weekend, requesting a lift to Turan-Kwande. After helping him secure accommodation when he became stranded at Jato-Aka, she dropped him off at Ugbema Junction the next day as he continued to Gboko.

The woman said their relationship continued afterward, with Aondoaseer visiting her at school. On the day of the theft, he accompanied her to campus to sign documents and, while she waited, asked for her motorcycle keys to buy food. Instead, he reportedly went to her residence, accessed her room, and removed several belongings including her motorcycle.

Following the incident, the suspect reportedly stopped responding to calls, and attempts by others to contact him were unsuccessful.

Human rights activist Elder Sughnen Yaaya confirmed on Thursday, February 12, 2026, that the police had recovered the motorcycle and returned it to the student.
