A Katsina businessman, Alhaji Balan Auwal Mai Gwanjo, has died while in captivity, more than two months after he was abducted by armed bandits in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Mai Gwanjo was kidnapped along with his son, Saifullahi, during a violent raid on Malumfashi town on February 26, 2025. According to local sources, the family was informed of his death by the abductors via a phone call received on Sunday, May 11.
The attack on the town was marked by heavy gunfire, as the bandits clashed with security forces. Despite resistance from security personnel, the assailants succeeded in taking both the elderly businessman and his son.
It remains uncertain whether Saifullahi has been released or is still being held captive.
