Ghanaian Arrested for Stealing Police Armoured Vehicle
A man identified as Ebenezer Frimpong has been taken into custody after allegedly driving away with an armoured vehicle belonging to the Ghana Police Service in Nkawie Market, Ashanti Region.
Security sources said the incident happened when the vehicle’s driver briefly stepped away, leaving the engine running in the busy market area.
Authorities allege that Frimpong entered the unattended vehicle and drove off, triggering an immediate alert to nearby security units.
Police units launched a coordinated search and tracked the vehicle along the Nkawie–Mim road. The suspect was later stopped and arrested near Mim without resistance.
A security official confirmed that the armoured vehicle was recovered intact and showed no visible damage. It has since been returned to police control.
Frimpong is in custody while investigators work to establish how the incident occurred and whether additional factors were involved.
