Kidnap Plot Foiled in Delta as Hoodlums Abandon Guns, Soaked Garri, Groundnuts During Police Raid

Delta State Police have disrupted a planned kidnapping operation, recovering firearms, ammunition, and other items abandoned by fleeing suspects.

According to a statement from Police Public Relations Officer Bright Edafe on Tuesday, officers from the CP Special Assignment Team, acting on credible intelligence, raided a suspected criminal hideout along a bush path in Upper Agbarho.

Intelligence had identified six suspected kidnappers in the area, prompting the operation at around 9:35 p.m. on January 11, 2026. The raid was led by Julius Robinson with support from local vigilantes.

“The suspects opened fire upon sighting police,” the statement said. Officers responded with superior firepower, forcing the suspects to flee, some with injuries.

Items recovered at the scene included an FNC rifle with one live round, a pump-action gun with 32 rounds, sachets of alcoholic drinks, matches, lighters, and surprisingly, food items such as soaked garri with three spoons, nylons of garri, and groundnuts.

“All exhibits have been recovered and secured,” the police said, adding that a manhunt is ongoing for those who escaped.

Delta State Police Commissioner Aina Adesola commended the team for their bravery and effective use of intelligence, reiterating that the command will continue to prevent criminal activities across the state.
