Kano APC Lawmakers Pledge Allegiance to Ado Bayero Amid Emirship Tussle
In the midst of the ongoing emirship conflict in Kano State, 12 All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers in the House of Assembly have publicly pledged their allegiance to Aminu Ado Bayero, the 15th Emir of Kano.
Led by Minority Leader Labaran Abdul Madari, the lawmakers paid homage to Ado Bayero at the Nassarawa Palace following their plenary session on Tuesday. This move comes amid a tense standoff triggered by the recent reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano, following Governor Abba Yusuf’s repeal of the five emirates council.
Both Sanusi and Ado Bayero have defied multiple court orders demanding they vacate the palace, escalating tensions across the city. Various organizations, including the police, religious leaders, notable figures, lawyers, and politicians, have attempted to mediate, but neither side has shown willingness to concede.
In a parallel development, the Kantin Kwari Market Traders Association visited Sanusi at his Kofar Kudu palace on Tuesday to express their loyalty. The delegation, led by the state’s Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Adamu Aliyu Kibiya, reaffirmed their support for Sanusi, who urged the traders to maintain honesty and fairness in their dealings, highlighting Kano’s status as a major commercial hub.
Since Sunday, Sanusi has been receiving visitors, including 40 district heads and title holders who have pledged their allegiance. Security remains tight with vigilante groups and local hunters (Yan Tauri) maintaining a presence at the palace. Additionally, five DSS operatives have been stationed at one of the palace offices, ensuring security amid the ongoing dispute.
