Court Discharges Miyetti Allah Leader, Bodejo, as Nigerian Government Withdraws Terrorism Charges
The Federal High Court in Abuja has discharged Bello Bodejo, the leader of Miyetti Allah Kautal Kore, from terrorism charges filed by the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice.
During Wednesday’s session, Justice Inyang Ekwo ruled in favor of the discharge after Aderonke Imana, counsel for the AGF, presented an oral application for the withdrawal of the three-count charge. Imana cited Section 108 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), 2015, as the basis for the application.
Imana explained that the request was also grounded in the AGF’s powers under Section 174 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), emphasizing that the decision to withdraw the charges was made in the interest of justice.
Counsel for Bodejo, led by Ahmed Raji, did not oppose the application and expressed gratitude to the AGF for the gesture. Raji urged the court to formally discharge Bodejo in accordance with the referenced legal provisions.
