Kalu Advocates for Social Cohesion, Igbo Apprenticeship System to Advance the Region

In a recent stakeholders’ meeting in his country home in Bende, Abia State, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, emphasized the need for enhanced social cohesion between the Igbo community and other tribes to propel the advancement of the Igbo nation.

During the meeting, Kalu underscored the importance of reviving the traditional Igbo apprenticeship system. He proposed a modification of the system to align with contemporary development trends, citing its historical success in creating jobs and fostering various industries. Kalu, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), suggested that this system could play a crucial role in empowering youths and driving development in the Southeast.

Addressing the current challenges facing the region, Kalu urged for the cessation of violence and insecurity, particularly calling on gunmen in the South East to abandon their locations, disarm, and seek legitimate means of livelihood through negotiation. He expressed concern over the negative impact of the weekly sit-at-home protests on businesses and investor confidence, condemning the actions of unknown gunmen as detrimental to the Federal Government’s efforts.

While discussing legislative initiatives, Kalu mentioned his ongoing efforts to push for the establishment of an Igbo apprenticeship system through a proposed bill. He believes this system could become a catalyst for Southeasterners to excel in various fields of endeavor, contributing significantly to the overall development of the region.

Addressing recent concerns surrounding the detention of Nnamdi Kalu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Kalu clarified that President Bola Tinubu had no involvement in the matter. He expressed optimism that President Tinubu would consider pleas for Nnamdi Kalu’s release, highlighting the President’s commitment to granting key positions to individuals from the Igbo community.

In conclusion, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu stressed that fostering unity, reviving traditional systems, and addressing security challenges are paramount to unlocking the full potential of the Igbo nation.
