JUST IN: Two Killed in Alleged Land Dispute in Okpuno-Awka — Police Recover Firearm, Arrest Five Suspects

 

The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of five suspects in connection with the gruesome killing of two individuals and the severe injury of another during a suspected land dispute in Okpuno, Awka South Local Government Area.

 

The violent attack occurred on June 3, 2025, at Okochi-Ime Village. According to preliminary reports, the assailants, armed with pump action rifles and driving an unmarked black Toyota Corolla, opened fire on the victims before fleeing the scene.

 

In the aftermath of the incident, police operatives recovered one automatic pump action gun believed to have been used in the attack. The lifeless bodies of the two victims have been deposited at the morgue, while the injured individual is receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

 

Spokesperson of the Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that the five arrested suspects are currently undergoing interrogation. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to apprehend other suspects still at large.

 

In response to the incident, the Commissioner of Police has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for a thorough investigation. He also directed the deployment of additional measures to ensure the arrest of all fleeing accomplices.
