Kidnappers Kill Two Police Officers, Abduct Chinese and Nigerian Worker in Vicious Attack
Tragedy struck in Oreke-Okeigbo community of Ifelodun Local Government Area, Kwara State, on Wednesday evening as gunmen attacked a mining site, killing two police officers and abducting two workers, including a Chinese national.
The attack, which occurred around 6:30 pm on June 4, claimed the lives of Assistant Superintendent of Police Haruna Watsai and Inspector Tukur Ogah, both attached to the 45 Police Mobile Force, Abuja. The assailants reportedly carted away the rifles of the slain officers during the raid.
In an official statement released on Thursday, the Public Relations Officer of the Kwara State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the incident on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo. The victims abducted have been identified as Mr. Sam Xie Wie, a Chinese national, and Mr. David Adenaiye, a Nigerian worker from Kogi State.
The Commissioner of Police condemned the attack and disclosed that a full-scale investigation and rescue mission had been launched. According to the statement, tactical and intelligence-driven operations are in progress to secure the release of the abducted individuals and to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The police assured residents of intensified security efforts in the area and appealed for calm. They urged the public to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could aid the ongoing investigation and rescue operation.
