JUST IN: No State Working Committee Has the Right to Discipline NEC Member – PDP Rubbishes Alleged Suspension of BoT Chairman Wabara

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed the reported suspension of its Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, calling it unconstitutional and without effect. In a statement issued on February 11, 2025, the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) emphasized that the purported suspension did not align with the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017) and the party’s established procedures.

The NWC stressed that no state working committee has the authority to suspend or discipline a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) without consulting the NWC. Citing Section 57 (7) of the PDP Constitution, the party clarified that only the NEC has the power to address disciplinary matters concerning its members, as well as deputy governors and members of the National Assembly. Given this provision, the party declared that the Abia State Chapter lacked the jurisdiction to take any action against Senator Wabara.

Describing the suspension as reckless and unconstitutional, the PDP warned those responsible to desist, stating that the NWC would take appropriate disciplinary measures if necessary to uphold the party’s stability and constitutional integrity. The statement urged party leaders, stakeholders, members, and supporters in Abia State, the South East, and across Nigeria to disregard the suspension.

The statement was signed by PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba.
