JUST IN: Court Orders EFCC to Finalise Aisha Achimugu’s Bail Within 24 Hours
The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to conclude the bail process of businesswoman and socialite Aisha Achimugu within 24 hours. The directive was issued by Justice Inyang Ekwo during a hearing on Wednesday, April 30, 2025.
Achimugu, who is currently under investigation over alleged money laundering, had filed a fundamental rights enforcement suit against the EFCC, seeking to prevent further harassment by the Commission and its agents. Her legal team argues that her rights have been violated during the course of the investigation.
During the last court session, the EFCC informed the court that Achimugu had failed to honour its invitation after initially being granted administrative bail. This prompted the judge to order her appearance before the Commission and in court on April 30 for an update on the matter.
Achimugu was first invited by the EFCC on February 12, 2024, when she provided a written statement and was granted administrative bail. However, she reportedly did not comply with subsequent reporting requirements, leading to her arrest at the Abuja airport and the current legal proceedings.
As of the time of this report, no formal charges have been filed against her, as the investigation remains ongoing. The court has adjourned the matter to May 2, 2025, for all parties to report on their compliance with the latest order.
In her affidavit, Achimugu stated that the N8.71 billion inflow into her corporate bank accounts was intended as an investment fund for acquiring an oil block.
