JUST IN: Fubara Meets Wike in Abuja as Reconciliation Talks Begin

 

Suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has made a fresh push for reconciliation with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. The two political figures, who fell out shortly after Fubara assumed office in 2023, met at Wike’s residence in Abuja in a meeting brokered by key political allies.

 

Sources revealed that Fubara was accompanied by Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru, and former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba. According to eyewitness accounts, Fubara walked straight into Wike’s living room—described as “familiar terrain”—and made an emotional appeal for peace.

 

While an insider confirmed that the meeting took place, they declined to comment on whether the discussions would lead to the lifting of the state of emergency declared in Rivers State. The meeting follows Fubara’s recent talks with President Bola Tinubu in London.

 

The political crisis in Rivers had escalated after militant groups threatened oil installations, prompting Tinubu to declare a state of emergency. The president also suspended Fubara, his deputy, and members of the state Assembly for six months, appointing a Sole Administrator to oversee the state’s affairs. Wike, commenting on the suspension, previously stated he had called for Fubara’s outright removal but was persuaded otherwise by the president.
