EFCC Nabs Alleged Fake Lawyer in Lagos Over Forged NBA Seal
Operatives of the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ikoyi, have detained a man identified as John Anoruo over alleged possession of a forged Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) seal.
Anoruo, who runs a legal and educational consultancy in the Ikorodu area of Lagos, was arrested on Monday, April 20, 2026, following preliminary findings linked to documents he submitted in an ongoing case.
According to the EFCC, the case began after Anoruo filed a petition dated September 22, 2025, on behalf of clients against the management of Global West Vessel Specialist Nigeria Limited. A subsequent letter of withdrawal dated March 5, 2026, also submitted under his name, reportedly carried the same NBA seal.
Investigators later determined that the seal was not genuine. During questioning, Anoruo allegedly admitted he obtained it from an undisclosed business centre in Lagos.
He also stated that while he earned a law degree in 2018 from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, through evening studies, he did not attend the Nigerian Law School.
The EFCC says he remains in custody and will be charged to court after investigations are completed.
