JUST IN: APM Withdraws Appeal Against Tinubu at Supreme Court
The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has officially withdrawn its appeal against President Bola Tinubu at the Supreme Court. This decision was made during a hearing at the highest court in the land.
The APM, represented by a legal team led by Mr. Chukwuma Machukwu Ume, SAN, chose to withdraw its appeal shortly after it was called for a hearing. The move came amidst a seven-member panel of the Supreme Court, with Justice Inyang Okoro at the helm.
During the proceedings, the Supreme Court panel openly criticized the APM for bringing what they deemed a “baseless” appeal to the court. The panel questioned the motive behind the appeal, asserting that such cases were adding to the court’s already heavy workload.
The Justices pointed out that the APM’s appeal lacked substance and appeared to be more of an academic exercise than a legitimate legal challenge. They emphasized that the APM’s appeal did not seek to declare their candidate as the winner but rather aimed at removing the sitting President.
Justice Okoro, expressing the panel’s sentiment, stated, “If we remove the President, then what next? There are two other appeals here that are asking for something substantial.”
Furthermore, Justice Emmanuel Agim, a member of the panel, highlighted that the issues raised by the APM in its appeal had already been settled by prior Supreme Court decisions. He questioned the necessity of overruling the court’s own past rulings.
