JUST IN: Supreme Court Reserves Judgment in Atiku’s Appeal Against Tinubu

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has reserved judgment in the appeal presented by Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Atiku Abubakar’s appeal aims to introduce fresh evidence and overturn the ruling by the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC), which upheld Bola Tinubu as the victor of the previous presidential election.

The seven-member panel presiding over this case, led by Justice John Okoro, announced this decision after a rigorous session where lawyers representing various parties presented their briefs of argument and made their final submissions.

During this hearing, legal representatives from both sides engaged in a spirited debate over the motion filed by the appellants, seeking to introduce fresh evidence. Appellants’ lawyer, Chris Uche (SAN), passionately implored the court to grant the motion, uphold their appeal, and grant the requested prayers, which include disqualifying Tinubu.

Conversely, lawyers representing the respondents, namely Abubakar Mahmoud, SAN (representing the Independent National Electoral Commission), Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN (representing Tinubu), and Chief Akin Olujinmi, SAN (representing the All Progressives Congress), vigorously urged the court to dismiss both the motion and appeal, citing a lack of merit.

Following a brief adjournment, the court reconvened, pivoting its attention to the appeal presented by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM). The Supreme Court’s forthcoming judgment will undoubtedly have significant ramifications on the Nigerian political landscape, and the nation awaits this historic decision with bated breath.
