JUST IN: Anambra Vigilante Outfit Dismisses Officers Who Assaulted Corps Member, Hands Them to Police
The Anambra State Vigilante outfit, Agunechemba, has dismissed eight of its operatives for assaulting National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Jennifer Elobor, in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area. The dismissed officers have been handed over to the police for prosecution.
The action follows nationwide outrage after a viral video showed the operatives storming a corps lodge, accusing the occupants of internet fraud despite their NYSC identification. The footage also captured Ms. Elobor being beaten and stripped, sparking condemnation from citizens and rights groups.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s Special Adviser on Community Security, Ken Emeakayi, had earlier confirmed the arrest and detention of those involved, describing the incident as “unfortunate and unacceptable.”
Chief Uche Nworah, a media personality and social commentator drew further attention to the development in a post on Wednesday, commending the government’s decisive action while stressing that prosecution must serve as a deterrent to future misconduct by security operatives.
