JUST IN: Acting LG Chairman Dies Days Before By-election

Alhaji Wali Adamu, the acting Chairman of Shira Local Government Area in Bauchi State, has died just days before a scheduled by-election in the council. He passed away on Sunday at the Federal Medical Centre in Azare, Katagum Local Government Area, following a brief illness.

Adamu was appointed acting chairman on March 3, 2025, after the Shira Legislative Council removed the former chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim Beli, and his deputy, Hon. Usman Adamu, over allegations including gross misconduct, financial mismanagement, dereliction of duty, and abuse of office. Before his elevation, Wali Adamu served as Councillor representing Tumfafi Ward and held the position of Leader of the Council.

News of his death was confirmed in a statement released by Mukhtar Gidado, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Governor Bala Mohammed. In the statement, the governor described Adamu as a committed public servant and expressed deep condolences to his family, the Katagum Emirate Council, and the people of Bauchi State. He prayed for Allah to grant the deceased eternal rest and for strength to his loved ones during this difficult period.

Wali’s death comes just 13 days before the planned by-election on May 24, 2025, to elect a new chairman and deputy chairman in Shira LGA. The Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) had declared its readiness for the vote, which follows the statewide local government elections held in August 2024.
