“It’s Time to Rescue PDP from Imminent Collapse” – Concerned Stakeholders
A group of concerned stakeholders within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under the banner of the Conference of Professionals in PDP (CPDP), has issued a call for immediate action to prevent the party from imminent collapse. Speaking in Abuja, the group’s Protem National Coordinator, Obinna Nwachukwu, urged party leaders, members, and stakeholders to unite and restore the party’s strength.
Nwachukwu explained that after a thorough review of the party’s current situation, the CPDP concluded that urgent intervention was necessary to protect the PDP from internal and external threats. He accused certain individuals, including those who have taken up positions in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) administration, of actively working to weaken the PDP. According to him, these individuals have been undermining party structures, instigating divisions, and engaging in legal battles aimed at destabilizing the party.
He warned that the PDP is at risk of losing its role as a viable opposition party, which Nigerians rely on to counter the APC. To address this, the CPDP demanded immediate action to cleanse the party and safeguard its democratic principles. The group specifically called for PDP members holding appointments in the APC administration to either resign from their positions or be expelled from the party.
Nwachukwu cited former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, as an example. He questioned how a supposed PDP leader could serve in an APC-led government while endorsing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election in 2027. The CPDP argued that Wike’s position damages the PDP’s credibility and emboldens anti-party activities.
The group also urged the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) to take decisive steps to reinvigorate the party. This includes ensuring the timely convening of the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for March 13, 2025. They emphasized that this meeting is crucial for providing direction to party members and resolving internal challenges.
Calling for unity, the CPDP appealed to all PDP members to prioritize the party’s constitution, core values, and national interest over personal or sectional concerns. They reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the PDP as a formidable opposition force capable of reclaiming power in the 2027 elections.
