“It is Our Responsibility to Destabilize PDP” – APC Chieftain
All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Mr. Cletus Obun has declared that destabilizing the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is part of his party’s responsibilities. Obun, a former chairman of the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) in Cross River State, emphasized that using such tactics is a legitimate political strategy, provided it does not lead to violence.
Obun’s remarks, made on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Friday, follow a claim from PDP leader Segun Sowunmi, who had blamed President Bola Tinubu’s appointment of Nyesom Wike as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for the ongoing crisis within the PDP. Sowunmi criticized the appointment, made in August 2023, as a move that aggravated divisions within the opposition party.
Responding to these accusations, Obun stated that while the PDP is free to assert its position, it is equally the responsibility of the APC to challenge and destabilize the opposition. He further explained that as long as such actions do not escalate into violence, it remains a valid political tool. “If we are able to infiltrate PDP and destabilize them, it is part of our duty, just as it is theirs to destabilize the APC,” Obun remarked.
