IPOB Issues Ultimatum to EEDC: Improve Electricity Supply or Face Consequences
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has taken a decisive stance against the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), issuing a stern ultimatum to the utility provider to rectify the dire state of electricity supply in the Southeast or risk expulsion from the region.
In a press release dispatched by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, IPOB castigated EEDC for what it deemed as exploitation and negligence towards consumers. The statement accused EEDC of imposing exorbitant electricity bills without corresponding power supply and failing to provide prepaid meters to consumers, resorting instead to unlawful estimated billing practices.
The grievances extended to instances where entire communities were saddled with exorbitant bills running into hundreds of thousands of naira, regardless of the availability of electricity. IPOB alleged that EEDC resorted to disconnecting communities that refused to pay these arbitrary bills, exacerbating the already precarious situation.
Furthermore, IPOB lamented EEDC’s protracted delays in returning community transformers after purported repairs, leaving numerous areas enveloped in darkness for extended periods. The statement explicitly targeted Emeka Offor, attributing the systemic failures to his leadership and vowing to hold EEDC accountable for its actions.
Conclusively, IPOB issued a stark warning to EEDC, demanding immediate action to ameliorate the electricity crisis or face expulsion from the Southeast. The organization pledged to welcome alternative companies willing to invest in enhancing power infrastructure for the region’s industrialization and development. Should EEDC fail to comply, IPOB affirmed its readiness to mobilize against the utility provider, signaling potential disruptions to its operations in the near future.
