Nigerian Surgeon Develops Groundbreaking Therapy for Sickle Cell Ulcers
In a remarkable breakthrough, Dr. Ayodele Ogunkeyede, a plastic, reconstructive, and aesthetic surgeon at Hafar Al-batin Central Hospital, Saudi Arabia, has unveiled a revolutionary compression therapy for chronic leg ulcers associated with sickle cell anemia.
This innovative treatment, developed through extensive research and innovative thinking, involves the application of a special bandage to compress and expel stagnant blood from the legs, thereby promoting improved blood circulation. The result is accelerated healing, with wounds that previously resisted treatment now closing within weeks.
Dr. Ogunkeyede, who is also a distinguished fellow of the West African College of Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons, disclosed that he pioneered this technique in 2015. In an interview in Ilorin, he expressed hope that his procedure would provide much-needed relief to individuals grappling with this challenging condition.
