Imo Guber: NLC President Ajaero Accused of Partisan Politics by Presidency
Joe Ajaero, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), is facing allegations of playing partisan politics. These claims were made by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, who accused Ajaero of misleading the public regarding his dedication to workers’ welfare.
Ajaero recently garnered attention for his meeting with Athan Achuonu, the governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in Imo State. This development raised concerns and questions about Ajaero’s impartiality as the leader of a prominent workers’ union.
One online user, @DavidsOffor, took to social media to share his concerns, stating, “Here is Joe Ajaero, the Partisan NLC President in a HAPPY mood with Imo State Labour Party’s gubernatorial candidate, Athan Achuonu. This same Ajaero has shut down Imo State because of his huge interest in seeing the unpopular Achuonu win the election on Saturday.”
@DavidsOffor further highlighted the impact of Ajaero’s actions on the state, such as the absence of electricity, fuel shortages, and a strike by teachers and health workers, all allegedly orchestrated to generate public sympathy against the current Governor.
Bayo Onanuga weighed in on the matter, expressing his disapproval. He stated, “Joe Ajaero, with Labour governorship candidate playing partisan politics in Imo. And he claims he is fighting for all workers in the state. TUC surprisingly bought the lie.”
This development has sparked debates about Ajaero’s role as the NLC President and whether his involvement in the Imo State governorship election compromises the organization’s commitment to workers’ interests. As the election date draws closer, political tensions in Imo State continue to rise, with questions lingering about the true motivations behind Joe Ajaero’s actions.
