“If Wabara Were My Father, I Would Have Disowned Him” – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has strongly criticized Adolphus Wabara, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT), over his role in the party’s ongoing crisis. Wike stated that if Wabara were his father, he would have disowned him, accusing him of fueling internal conflicts within the PDP.

Speaking during a media chat in Abuja on Sunday, Wike attributed the party’s struggles to the actions and remarks of certain leaders. He condemned efforts to remove Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum and National Secretary Sam Anyanwu despite court rulings, insisting that the party must follow due process.

“If Wabara were my father, I would have disowned him. He doesn’t deserve to be a leader. No wonder Obasanjo made a presidential broadcast about his acts of corruption,” Wike said. He dismissed concerns about the leadership dispute, emphasizing that the courts would decide the matter and that party leaders must respect the rule of law.

Wike warned against political maneuvering aimed at bypassing proper procedures, stressing that any leadership changes should be determined through elections as outlined in the PDP constitution. He urged party members to focus on resolving internal issues ahead of the party’s convention, which is scheduled for December, rather than escalating tensions. According to Wike, the priority should be to ensure a smooth transition and strengthen the party moving forward.
