Why I Will Never Reconcile with Gov. Fubara – Wike
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed any possibility of resolving his ongoing political conflict with Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Sunday, Wike accused Fubara and his allies of failing to comply with directives issued by President Bola Tinubu during a peace meeting aimed at settling the crisis. According to Wike, if the governor and his camp were unable to implement the president’s instructions, they should have returned to him for further guidance.
The rift between Wike and Fubara, which has persisted since Fubara assumed office, revolves around a struggle for political control in Rivers State. The dispute has significantly impacted the state’s House of Assembly, leading to the defection of 27 members to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the emergence of factional speakers and a parallel assembly.
During the press briefing, Wike expressed frustration over Fubara’s actions, stating that the president had clearly outlined steps to be taken, including withdrawing an impeachment notice. He criticized Fubara’s failure to follow through with all directives, particularly taking legal action instead of seeking further resolution with the president.
“I’m wondering, what conflict to resolve? Mr. President, in his wisdom, called all parties. He said withdraw the impeachment notice, you go and do this, you go and do that, but they never returned to him,” Wike said.
He further questioned Fubara’s approach to the crisis, emphasizing that it was unusual for one party in a presidential intervention to disregard the process.
The crisis in Rivers State continues to deepen, with no resolution in sight as both political camps remain entrenched in their positions.
