“If the agreement is one term, I will leave on May 28, 2031” — Peter Obi says he’ll honour coalition deal to serve single term, hand over to North
Peter Obi, former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has said he would accept any coalition arrangement that requires him to serve only a single term and hand over power to the North in 2031.
Speaking during a Space session on X (formerly Twitter) tagged #PeterObiOnParallelFacts, Obi emphasised that he is not desperate to be president but is driven by a desire to see Nigeria work. The session drew more than 10,000 live listeners and nearly 3,000 comments.
“If the agreement is one term, I will leave on May 28, 2031 — not even May 29. I am not desperate to be president. I am desperate to see Nigeria work,” Obi said while responding to a question from a user named Balactic.
He added that respecting zoning and honouring coalition agreements are marks of political maturity, which he believes are essential for building a stable and united Nigeria.
