“If Atiku Contests With Obi Or Amaechi, Tinubu Will Be Gone” — Dele Momodu
Former presidential candidate and ADC chieftain Dele Momodu has said a coalition ticket featuring Atiku Abubakar and a southern political figure could end President Bola Tinubu’s tenure in the 2027 election.
Speaking on Channels Television’s *Sunday Politics*, Momodu suggested that pairing Atiku with leaders like Peter Obi or Rotimi Amaechi could significantly reduce the ruling All Progressives Congress’s (APC) chances.
“I believe if we have a combination of Atiku, maybe with Peter Obi, maybe with Rotimi Amaechi, or any other person from the South, Tinubu will be gone. It will be the end of Tinubu’s foundation, not the APC,” he said.
Momodu highlighted Atiku’s long-standing political experience as an advantage, comparing his preparation and persistence to that of global figures in long-term politics. He noted, however, that defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC since Tinubu took office are concerning for Nigeria’s democratic landscape.
Atiku, Obi, and Amaechi—all of whom contested the 2023 elections under different parties—have aligned under the ADC as part of an opposition coalition targeting the 2027 race. Other prominent figures in the alliance include David Mark, Rauf Aregbesola, and Nasir El-Rufai.
The ADC has scheduled its national convention for April 14, 2026, with ward and state congresses beginning April 7, aiming to formalize its strategy for the upcoming elections.
