Obi Misleads Followers, Always Pursues Easy Road That Leads to Doom — Presidency

The presidency on Sunday criticised former presidential candidate Peter Obi over his exit from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), accusing him of misleading his supporters and lacking political consistency.

In a post on X, presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga described Obi as an opportunistic politician who frequently changes political platforms.

“We told you so. The political nomad is on the move again. Ignore all those puerile reasons he gave in these illogical musings, a self-serving letter to his mob,” Onanuga said.

He added that Obi avoids internal political contests, claiming he could not compete with key figures such as Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi for the party’s presidential ticket.

“He can’t fight Atiku or Amaechi for the ticket of ADC,” he said.

The presidency also accused Obi of blaming the administration of President Bola Tinubu for crises within political parties he has been part of, rather than taking responsibility.

“He pursues the easy road, that will only lead him to doom, like in 2023. He always blames the government without doing a soul-searching of himself. Welcome, Peter to the 2027 race,” Onanuga added.

Earlier on Sunday, Obi announced his resignation from the ADC coalition, which he joined on December 31, 2025, after leaving the Labour Party.

In his resignation letter, Obi said his decision was not driven by personal disagreements with party leaders, including former Senate President David Mark and Atiku Abubakar.

“My decision to leave the ADC is not because our highly respected Chairman, Senator David Mark, treated me badly, nor because my leader and elder brother, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, or any other respected leaders did anything personally wrong to me. I will continue to respect them,” he said.

However, Obi cited internal conflicts within the party as the main reason for his departure.

“However, the same Nigerian state and its agents that created unnecessary crises and hostility within the Labour Party that forced me to leave now appear to be finding their way into the ADC, with endless court cases, internal battles, suspicion, and division,” he stated.

He added that such developments were distracting from addressing national issues and building a political platform focused on service and governance.
