Datti Baba-Ahmed Reveals Major Problem He Has With Peter Obi

Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed has publicly outlined his concerns about his former running mate, Peter Obi, criticising his political approach and decisions following the 2023 presidential election.

In an interview released on X on Monday, Baba-Ahmed said Obi should reconsider any plan to contest the 2027 presidential election if he is not prepared to fully engage in political struggles and internal party challenges.

He questioned Obi’s tendency to exit political platforms during disagreements, arguing that leadership requires persistence even in difficult situations.

Baba-Ahmed said:

“As much as I dislike what the All Progressives Congress has done against Nigerians, someone who got the Labour Party’s ticket so easily should have stayed to fix the problem of the party no matter how difficult it is.”

He also referenced Obi’s reported position on political disputes, adding:

“My former leader (Peter Obi) saying that wherever there is a quarrel, he will walk away? So there is a quarrel in Nigeria, will he walk away? If you are not ready to fight, stay in your house.”

The former vice-presidential candidate also expressed doubt over the possibility of a strong electoral alliance between Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, particularly in terms of gaining widespread support in northern Nigeria.

Obi and Kwankwaso have recently been linked to political realignments involving the African Democratic Congress and the Nigerian Democratic Congress, following earlier shifts in party affiliation after the 2023 elections.

Obi, who previously contested the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party with Baba-Ahmed as his running mate, has not yet responded publicly to the latest comments.
